This is the story

I’m Frances. I live in an Ikea show home in London with my wife and my very bad dog. I have a Lego pirate ship and a completely useless degree in Ancient and Medieval History.

This is the story of how I got here.

My family has the gift of the gab.

Not in an especially talkative way, in fact we tend to be pretty reserved.

But there is a talent for bullshittery, a viciously sarcastic tongue and an ability to talk people in circles. My father used this side as a politician and many other members of my family worked in local government and politics.

On the softer side, we can articulate huge concepts and the most minute details. We can draw people into another world. My mother was a teacher for 35 years. Thousands of kids and a few of their kids learnt wonder from her. My sister is a teacher now.

The rest of my family who aren’t teachers or politicians / civil servants are hairdressers. In fact we have an unbroken line of eight generations of barbers.

See, gift of the gab.

In my youth I mainly used this ability to fabricate excuses as to why I hadn’t done my homework and talk teachers out of giving me detention. One time I managed to convince a tutor I was late to class because my bus had been early.

So what was I going to do with my life? Politics or education? Actually, I tried both. And I hated both. It made me miserable. My managers were good, they saw what I could do. I was the envoy dispatched to smooth things over, appease the most unhappy colleagues, fight our corner in meetings, sweet talk auditors and external visitors.

Every time a little bit of me shriveled up and died.

So I quit. I walked away from two careers before I was 30. As you can imagine, this caused a great deal of what we will politely term discussion in the family.

Perhaps strangely, considering our affinity for words, I am the only member of my family that loves to write. I am also the biggest reader and perhaps that made me a bit more insular and circumspect. So, writing.

Except here be dragons. Snake oil salesmen and bullshit artists abound in copywriting. My integrity is more important to me than just about anything. It makes me physically sick to compromise on it.

Instead I only work with people and companies that I feel great about. I can weave stories and write words in the service of good and use only the most positive side of my articulate inheritance.

Is that you? Do you need an enthusiastic brand ambassador to spread the word, connect you to your audience and build your business? Then I would love to talk about how I can help you.
